M. Night Shyamalan has put aside trying to wring out every ridiculous idea for a twist from his brain and is tackling the much-loved anime-style cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I admit to knowing bugger all about the cartoon, and am only excited about it because it stars both Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel and the oh-so-dreamy Jackson Rathbone from Twilight. Shyamalan’s a brave man, taking on a phenomenon so loved, but I guess he’s immune to criticism now. The Last Airbender (the Avatar was dropped for some reason…) tells of 12 year-old Aang (Noah Ringer), who as the titular Avatar who can bend elements, must protect the world from the volatile nations of the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads.
