The first actors for the dreaded prequel to The Thing have been announced, and confirm my previous doubts.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, soon to be seen as Ramona in Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins the Norwegian research team found destroyed by a shape-shifting alien lifeform at the beginning of John Carpenter’s classic 1982 film. Winstead previously appeared in Death Proof and as Bruce Willis‘ daughter in Live Free or Die Hard.

Also joining the suspiciously non-Scandinavian-so-far cast will be Australia’s Joel Edgerton, who’ll next be seen with Tom Hardy in Warrior. The Broadway actor (he played opposite Cate Blanchett in A Streetcar Named Desire) will play a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot. Hands up if you think Alexander Skarsgard should redress the balance?
Heat Vision report that Matthijs Van Heijningen’s film starts shooting in Toronto next month.
